My name is Victoria Woodburn and I am currently a student at Northwestern University in the Medill School of Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications. I am majoring in journalism while also pursuing a minor in psychology and a certificate in integrated marketing communications.
I am particularly interested in marketing and public relations, but looking at these fields from a journalistic viewpoint. I firmly believe that at the core of both of these fields is a form of storytelling, similar to journalism. My goal is to tell the story of the client in a way that encourages others to become invested in them.
I enjoying involving myself in extracurriculars at Northwestern and I do my best to ensure that I am participating in a myriad of activity types. Some examples of my involvement on campus include the following: Chief Marketing Officer of Global Project Hope, member of the executive marketing board of TEDxNorthwestern, member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, Pi Beta Phi women's fraternity and Illuminate Mentorship program.
This past summer, I worked on a project concentrating on girls and their experiences in the Soap Box Derby and how this relates to broader trends and experiences of women in STEM. Included in this project was journalistic coverage of the Soap Box Derby World Championships in Akron, Ohio in July. This project was done in a journalistic style, gathering information from interviews with past racers in the derby. This project was made possible thanks to a summer undergraduate research grant given to me by the Northwestern University Department of Undergraduate Research.
Currently, I have spent my fall semester studying abroad in Vienna, Austria. While in Vienna, I have taken classes that have focused on European Society & Culture so that I can further engage in diversifying my view of the world.
